Hospice On-Line Program
To address this challenge, a new on-line webform was developed that allows agencies to enter data online. This information is needed to ensure the Medical Examiner is aware of any preexisting conditions and diagnosis for a patient before being called out to perform field services.
The new process is much more streamlined and timelier. Initially, data entered into this system by an outside agency is sent directly to the Medical Examiner’s Office. Upon submission of information, the agency will receive an email confirmation of receipt by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The ME’s Office then previews the data before it is approved and populated into the Medical Examiner Case Management System. Once the data is in the system, Field Investigators and other staff at the Medical Examiners can preview the data prior to calls, meetings or other activities related to the processing of information. To ensure data security, there is an information expiration date of 180 days. The system also utilizes Captcha for security purposes.
We’ve discovered the system is very easy to use and did not require extensive training. We’ve also noticed savings in time and the use of paper. Most important, having hospice data up to date in the system is critical to our mission, and gives the person and family dealing with a hospice situation the respect and dignity they deserve.
